Understanding Procedure Downtime: What to Expect at Gayner Facial Plastic Surgery
One of the most common questions we receive at Gayner Facial Plastic Surgery is:
“How much downtime will I need?”
Whether you’re preparing for a special event, heading back to school or work, or simply planning your calendar, understanding recovery time is key to choosing the right procedure. Under the expert care of Dr. Scott Gayner, a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, patients receive personalized guidance on what to expect from minimally invasive treatments to surgical procedures.
Let’s break down some of our most popular procedures and the typical recovery time you can anticipate:
💉 Injectables (Botox/Daxxify/Jeuveau, Filler-RHA® Collection)
Downtime: Minimal to none
You may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, but most patients return to normal activity the same day. Results are typically visible within a few days (Botox/Daxxify/Jeuveau) or immediately (filler).
Perfect for: Busy schedules, same-day events, or a quick refresh before the weekend.
👃 Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Downtime: 7–10 days for initial recovery
Most patients take a week off for bruising and swelling to subside. A nasal splint is typically removed after one week, and while subtle swelling can last longer, you’ll be comfortable returning to work or school after the first 7-10 days.
Long-term: Final results continue to refine over 12-18 months, especially with detailed tip work.
👁️ Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Downtime: 7–10 days
Bruising and swelling are most noticeable during the first week. Many patients return to work after 7–10 days with makeup to camouflage any residual discoloration.
Results: Brighter, refreshed eyes with minimal scarring.
🧖 Facelift / Necklift
Downtime: 7-10 days for social recovery
You’ll need about 7-10 days of downtime for bruising and swelling. Most patients feel comfortable being in public after 1 week, with continued healing over the next few months.
Long-term: Results can last 10+ years, making this a long-term investment in your appearance.
🖋️ ECO2 Resurfacing
Downtime: 7–10 days for initial healing
ECO2 fractional laser resurfacing is one of the most effective treatments for deep wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring, and overall skin texture. It works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate new collagen and skin renewal.
Expect redness, swelling, and peeling during the first week. Pinkness may persist for a few additional weeks, depending on skin type and depth of treatment. Makeup can usually be worn after 7–10 days. The first 72 hours, you will look the worst but it is not painful.
Long-term benefits: Skin continues to improve for several months, with smoother, tighter, and more radiant results.
Best for: Patients looking for dramatic skin rejuvenation with long-lasting benefits.
